Lorae

Changing careers to change lives
Lorae is standing in front of a bookcase, smiling at the camera.

Prior to graduating from UniSQ with a Master of Arts (Editing and Publishing), Lorae obtained an undergraduate honours degree in Biotechnology Innovation and worked as a Risk Advisory Manager for Ernst & Young in both Australia and Ireland.

Despite the risk, challenge and fear involved in leaving a successful career, Lorae found a new profession that was personally fulfilling, enjoyable and allowed her to share her love of reading with others.

After publishing a young adult fiction novel as part of her Masters project, Lorae co-established the Black Phoenix Publishing Collective and acts as the Publications Manager and an editor on various projects. This collective publishes works by first-time Australian authors and provides new graduates with real-world publishing experience.

Lorae also currently works in an editorial position with Scholastic Australia, the largest children’s publishing company in the country, where her ultimate goal is to kindle a love of reading in young people.

'A quote from R.R. Martin has always stuck with me: ‘A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies … the man who never reads lives only one.’ I want to encourage and enable people to enlarge their worlds and ‘live a thousand lives’.'
