  • UniSQ's Master of Education (Career Development) is ideal for professionals who work in teaching, counselling, training, employment or community development roles to support the career planning and development of students, clients and organisations.
  • This degree is for new and experienced practitioners looking to focus on big picture issues in career development, including policy, employability and learning.
  • Expand your understanding of the transformative role of education in society, and develop the skills to work through the contemporary challenges faced by educators in rapidly changing, diverse communities.
  • Develop the skills to solve current issues in the education environment by using your own experiences as a backdrop to your studies, developing a research project based on your current workplace.
  • This specialisation does not qualify you for teacher registration in Queensland. You can qualify for teacher registration in Queensland with the Master of Learning and Teaching (Early Years), Master of Learning and Teaching (Primary) or Master of Learning and Teaching (Secondary).

Career outcomes

  • Career opportunities exist in an array of work environments from schools, TAFEs and universities to government agencies and industry. Roles can include career development practitioner, career educator, career counsellor, work-integrated learning coordinator or employment counsellor.

Entry requirements

  • Approved bachelor degree, or equivalent, in Education.
  • Candidates with a bachelor degree, or equivalent, in a non-related discipline may be eligible for entry into UniSQ's Graduate Certificate of Education. Upon completion and achievement of a minimum GPA of 4.0, they may apply for entry into the Master of Education.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Degree structure

To complete this degree students must complete 12 units. Most courses (similar to ‘subjects’) are valued at 1 unit. To study full-time you would usually complete 4 units per semester.
