Overview
Do you work with second-language speakers and communities in Australia or internationally? Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) as a specialisation prepares you working as a professional in today’s culturally and linguistically diverse communities. It will extend your skills and knowledge to ways in which language is acquired, learned and used in a variety of contexts among a range of age groups. This intercultural specialisation commences with features of language, applicable universally, in spoken and written forms and provides, progressively, a knowledge base of language acquisition and learning principles for learner-centred pedagogy.
Courses extend into language assessment, digital technologies and multimedia, applications to language use, analysis and literacy assessment to language program management, the articulated skills for teaching younger learners as well as adults, from Middle Eastern and South-East Asian language backgrounds. You will gain skills for teaching into curriculum areas incorporating language needs of students with additional languages to English. This specialisation culminates in a project based on sound principles in applied research enabling leadership and career development in the field.
