Overview

  • Make the great outdoors your new office and learn to protect our wildlife with hands-on courses in Wildlife Management.
  • UniSQ’s Diploma of Science (Wildlife Management) introduces you to the fundamental concepts of biosecurity, conservation, animal welfare, vertebrate pests, and survey techniques to collect, record, and analyse field data.
  • Develop practical field skills with specialised training, including animal identification, handling and trapping; safety and bush survival skills; training in 4 wheel driving; camera trapping; and more.

Further study

The Diploma is a qualification in its own right, and you can stop there if you want to, but it is also a pathway to the Bachelor of Science (Wildlife Management). This means that the eight science courses from your diploma can count towards a bachelor degree.

Career outcomes

  • Career opportunities in wildlife management are growing in Australia and internationally as climate change impacts wildlife conservation. There is increasing need for sustainable use of natural resources and solutions to the growing number of human-wildlife conflicts, such as relocating pest animals or birds striking aircraft.
  • Start your wildlife management career as a ranger, biosecurity officer, game management officer, or pest and weed control officer.
  • Work in a wide range of sectors, including government (federal, state and local), non-government organisations, not-for-profit organisations and corporate firms.

Pre-requisites

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C), and
  • General Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C)

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Residential schools

All students will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials to gain practical experience, use facilities and specialist equipment, and meet staff and other students.

There is a two-week compulsory field trip as part of the skills training within the Wildlife Management major in this Diploma, which involves travel, accommodation and meal expenses.
