  • Be a part of a team solving real industry problems, from pioneering new eco-materials, pushing the frontiers in aerospace, renewable energy implementation, and development of smart robotics.
  • Guided by UniSQ’s team of leading academics, develop skills to optimise the performance of smart systems across a vast range of industry, including manufacturing, transportation, aerospace, health/medical (biotech), mining, agriculture, government, start-up (entrepreneurship), and robotics (autonomous systems).
  • You will experience a combination of mechanical, electrical, control, and software disciplines to develop smarter machines, devices and processes. Develop a passion for solving hands-on problems, interacting with physical systems, learning to prototype and customise for optimal performance.
  • Be inspired by students before you, producing projects such as using LEGO in recovery of stroke victims, optimising autonomous weed detection and control, designing a force feedback system for use in direct human to machine interfacing, and asset monitoring using machine vision and sensory in mobile robots.
  • Graduate ready for the most cutting-edge jobs of the future, with the practical skills to integrate state-of-the-art technology and robotics to transform tomorrow’s economy well into the future.

Professional accreditation

When you graduate with your Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), you will be eligible to apply for membership with Engineers Australia as a graduate Professional Engineer. You will also have the opportunity to work overseas, with your accreditation recognised in those countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord.

Career outcomes

  • Graduate ready for career opportunities as a professional Mechatronics Engineer, Robotics Specialist, Control Engineer, Automation Engineer or Cross Disciplinary Engineer in the mining, manufacturing, Government, agriculture, health, automotive and aeronautical fields.

Pre-requisites

  • Subject pre-requisites: English (Units 3 & 4, C), Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent
  • Recommended prior study: Physics (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent

Professional experience

As part of your degree you will need to complete a minimum of 60 days of professional experience. However, many UniSQ students are already employed in industries relevant to their studies and may be able to write up their existing work experience to meet this requirement. These experiences provide you with opportunities to put theory into practice.

All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of practical experience within this program.

Residential schools

This degree has a mandatory attendance requirement for some of the residential and practical school courses.

If you are enrolled in the External study mode in this degree it is mandatory you attend on-campus for professional practice based and technical residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face practicals and tutorials, use the facilities and meet staff and other students.

Residential schools are one week long intensive sessions held periodically across a program of study, and provided free to students to complete the practical requirements of their program.
