Overview

  • Have you ever read an article, online or in the paper, that’s impacted you and shaped your thinking? How we engage with the world, in cultural, economic and political contexts is influenced heavily by the media.
  • Direct your research into language, film, television, culture, social media or mass communication and develop an in-depth understanding of how these areas can dynamically shape people’s lives in a media-driven world.
  • Complete courses in high-level research design and method.
  • Complete a dissertation under the expert supervision of UniSQ academics, in an area of your interest.
 

Further study

This degree will also serve as a pathway to further study, such as the Master of Research or the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Career outcomes

  • Communication and media studies will prepare you for a career in public relations, communication policy, management, administration, arts and culture industries, media, teaching and community development. 

Entry requirements

  • Completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in Arts or a related discipline, with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0.

English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

If you don't meet the English language requirements, you can apply to study UniSQ's UniReady courses TPP0122 and TPP0123, or the English for Academic Purposes EAP2 pathway program through the Union Institute of Language (UIL).

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
