UniSQ’s Food Science degrees provide a platform for delving into one of Australia’s leading growth sectors, and discovering the world of science behind food. Master the science behind food chemistry, analysis, processing, safety, and product development. Develop an understanding of the effects of food components on human nutrition and health in disease prevention and health promotion – medicine from the kitchen!

UniSQ is also partnering in the national Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre, a $100 million, 10-year initiative uniting industry and research institutions to focus on diverting food waste into other purposes.

Functional foods - the new 'medicine'

UniSQ researchers are investigating the potential for this and other functional foods to reverse human obesity and chronic inflammatory diseases affecting the heart, liver, kidney and joints. The variety is amazing, as purple carrots and corn, seaweeds, chia seeds, citrus, coffee, oats, sorghum and cardamom can provide evidence for such health benefits.
