Study Starter Grant (previously UniSQ Equity Scholarship)

Valued at $3000, the Study Starter Grant provides financial support for commencing students to navigate the costs of university study. UniSQ students from low-to-middle income households are encouraged to apply.

Consideration will be given to applicants from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, and applicants from a rural town, or a remote/very remote community within Australia.

The grant will open for applications in Study Period 1 and Study Period 2 2023.

Please note: If your application for a Study Starter Grant is successful, the funds will not be paid until approximately two weeks after the first census date in the study period of application.

If you are relying on a grant to purchase textbooks and resources, you may consider applying for an interest free Student Financial Loan. Please refer to the Student Financial Loan webpage for more information and application forms.

There are a limited number of grants available in 2023.

The grant will be paid as a direct deposit at a rate of:

$3000 (paid once per year)

Applicants must:

be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen residing permanently in Australia
be commencing studies at UniSQ in an undergraduate program in the study period of application
be enrolled in a minimum of 1 study unit in the study period of application and meet at least one of the following criteria:
- an annual household income not exceeding the eligible threshold (low-to-middle income) or;
- be from a rural town, or remote/very remote community within Australia or;
- identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person of Australia.

Applicants must:

provide evidence of your personal and/or family’s financial circumstances which may include:
- Centrelink Income Support Statement
- Proof of Income (Australian Taxation Office Notice of Assessment for the most recent financial year and payslips covering the most recent two months)
- Concession/Healthcare/Medicare Card/s
- If you are financially dependent on your family, you will need to provide proof of family income.

If applicable, provide evidence of the following:

A permanent address in or have relocated to study from a large, medium or small rural town, or remote/very remote community within Australia according to the Modified Monash Model 2019 Classification - refer Health Workforce Locator map
Your verified identity as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons of Australia.

Please Note: If an applicant holds other UniSQ awarded scholarships, this may be taken into consideration in selection. There are some scholarships that cannot be held together.

Application must be made via the UniSQ Scholarships Online Application Management System.
