The SQNNSW Innovation Hub (Stanthorpe) together with Granite Belt Growers Association and Growcom are hosting a workshop focussing on storage dam evaporation savings and the value of water saved.

This is a priority issue in the district, and this field day will provide information and case studies from the local area.

The workshop will provide an overview of:

  • the scale of evaporation and seepage loss from local storages
  • products and technologies available to reduce losses - the pros and cons
  • how to calculate costs vs benefits
  • local case studies demonstrating the cost-benefit of storage evaporation management
  • farm visits to covered dams
  • National Ag Plastics Stewardship Program - Growcom
  • Farm Business Resilience Program (FBRP) for horticulture - Growcom.

The workshop will also demonstrate freely available tools and resources available for a site-specific economic assessment of the viability of evaporation and seepage mitigation systems. The workshop will also provide a forum to discuss local needs for water management and financing opportunities to support adoption of solutions.
