School of Heath and Medical Sciences Seminar Series - Researching With & Without Funding: Expo and Development from Ongoing Diabetes Self-Management Project

Abstract: 
Starting research either newly or in a new environment has several challenges. One is staying focused on vision and mission, especially when/where inability to get understanding of potential support translates to inability to secure funding. This presentation dwells on an ongoing diabetes self-management project. Previously, this work was viewed as having many unrelated projects, which posed a challenge.

This expo will present the person centred approach used to explain the project, which has been sustained for over 10-years yielding several publications and leading to development of a tool for evidence-base cardiovascular medicine – also to be presented. The contentious definition of research impact that serves as motivation will be highlighted and the impact of the study to low-middle income communities also highlighted.
