Mental Health Nurses as Ethical Change Agents: A Reflective Topical Autobiography
01 SEP 2022
10.00 AM - 11.30 AM

This research intends to explore the challenges facing mental health nurses reporting ethical issues. My research will be based on my experiences as a Registered Nurse (RN) in forensic mental health facility when I attempted to address ethical dilemmas that I identified in my workplace at the time. I intend to outline the full extent of the resistance I experienced including harassment attempts and psychological distress. I intend to describe the systematic resistance to my reporting efforts through the existing protocols and procedures provided by the facility. My research is driven by the belief that a nurse, of any designation, should be able to report ethical issues, in good faith, and expect positive discussions with management on solving the reported issues.
