Abstract: Biometric recognition systems using the fingerprint, face, etc., offer some obvious advantages over traditional password-/token-based authentication schemes, and now they are available to users at lower costs. However, the wide use of biometrics raises some privacy and security concerns. For example, the original biometric data is permanently associated with a particular individual. Once it is compromised, it will be lost permanently. Moreover, if an individual’s biometric data is compromised in one application, substantially all of the applications in which the biometric data is used, are compromised. In this presentation, biometric security techniques are introduced to tackle these issues. The advantages and drawbacks of several state-of-the-art methods, to protect sensitive biometric data, are discussed and future prospects are given..
Bio: Dr Wencheng Yang received his PhD degree in computer science from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, in August 2015. Before Joined UniSQ in July 2022, He has been working as a postdoctoral researcher for more than five years in the Security Research Institute at Edith Cowan University (ECU), Australia. His main research interests include biometric security and biometric recognition. His Google Scholar H-index is 20. In his research fields, he has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed conference and journal publications, including a number of papers published in high-ranking journals, e.g., IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, and Pattern Recognition.
