Machine Learning (ML) to Enhance Student Engagement in Online Learning: A Study Focusing on Teacher Behaviour and Movements
07 MAR 2022
3.30 PM - 5.00 PM

The popularity of online learning continues to rise due to its various benefits and the current global issue COVID-19. Researchers have established the significant importance of videos, student video engagement and teachers' presence in online learning. But no research provides the student video engagement characteristics in a form usable by Machine Learning models. Previous studies highlight the importance of teachers' behaviours and movements to engage students but do not provide any framework to measure those. In this research study, the researcher will identify the characteristics of an engaging video. With the help of video annotation software, the researcher will then formalise these characteristics for application to recorded lecture videos and verified by Machine Learning scientists in developing an Artificial Intelligence instrument.
