USQ Wright decision for business valedictorian

University of Southern Queensland 2021 summer graduation ceremonies commence at the Empire Theatre tomorrow

For University of Southern Queensland valedictorian Sam Wright, life has come full circle.

Starting off with the dream of entering the business community, Mr Wright is now graduating a Masters of Business Administration at the top of his class.

Mr Wright said he was thrilled to be named a valedictorian, with the University of Southern Queensland 2021 summer graduations starting tomorrow.

“It was a real honour – and very unexpected,” Mr Wright said.

“I found myself maturing during my tertiary studies and I applied myself to the best of my abilities.

“My grandfather was an accountant, but sadly he died long before I was born. I feel I must have inherited the accountant gene from him.

“Being named valedictorian has given me a great sense of achievement and was the perfect way to finish my studies.”

While maintaining top grades is a feat in itself, Mr Wright completed his Masters while working as the part owner of Ambrosiussen Business Accountants.

He is also the Vice President of the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce.

“It was great because my work experience tied in with my education,” Mr Wright said.

“The MBA really helped me to grow into the role over time – it expanded my leadership skills and strategic thinking to a point where it fast-tracked my development.

“I also feel strongly about the role that family businesses play in the community, which is why I joined the Chamber of Commerce.

“When local businesses are doing well they’re often sponsoring the local footy team or giving to charity, which has a real knock-on effect.

“I wanted to arm myself with a good education so I too could deliver a valuable service to the community.”

Mr Wright said he had been supported through his studies by his family.

“My wife Ash has really been my rock throughout this – there have been countless number of days in the office at the weekend or doing assignments,” he said.

“We have three kids and she has been very understanding, I really want to pay tribute to her.

“A special mention also goes to the lecturers and academic staff at the University, who helped me understand the concepts being taught and expanded my thinking.”

Mr Wright will be one of the many students crossing the stage at this year’s University of Southern Queensland 2021 summer graduation ceremonies, which kick-off at the Empire Theatre tomorrow.
