University of Southern Queensland expert to talk on Coldplay concerts going green

In a bid to make their next tour more eco-friendly, Coldplay is looking to its fans to power the show.
The band has announced it will be using kinetic flooring, which generates electricity when fans jump and dance, as well as pedal power generators (cycles) to help cover part of the concerts’ electricity needs. Front man Chris Martin said the new idea comes as the band looks for a way to reduce its carbon footprint and support sustainable touring practices.

Electro-Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Andreas Helwig can explain the ins and outs of the process.

He says although a good idea in theory, a lot of dancing and pedalling would be needed to supply a large rock concert with enough power.
