University of Southern Queensland joins TGS Rugby line-out

It's the beginning of a new sporting and academic partnership that continues to foster the talented youth of Toowoomba.

The University of Southern Queensland has teamed up with Toowoomba Grammar School (TGS) building strong sporting and academic ties in the region.

The alliance will see the University play a pivotal role in helping further educate the young players by sponsoring the TGS Rugby Program for 2021.

University of Southern Queensland Vice-Chancellor Professor Geraldine Mackenzie said the University was proud to partner with TGS and support the teams throughout the season.

"Toowoomba Grammar School has a commitment to excellence, a value the University of Southern Queensland also shares, and we look forward to an exciting future both on and off the field," Professor Mackenzie said.

“We are seeing more and more of our local school leavers choose to study at their hometown university.

“With the breadth of fantastic courses on offer, incredible scholarships and the outstanding online options available, it is exciting to see many choosing the University of Southern Queensland.

“This year, more school leavers from Toowoomba Grammar School than any other school in the region, listed UniSQ as their first preference which was fantastic to see. We look forward to welcoming many more students in future."

TGS Director of Rugby, Jono Farrell, said the relationship with the University of Southern Queensland would deepen the School’s connection with the University and the community.

"Teaming up with UniSQ compliments our commitment to the importance of education,” he said.

The alliance will also see potential partnerships with the University’s School of Psychology and Wellbeing and researchers working with the athletes on mental resilience and athlete recovery frameworks.
