Leadership Excellence Academy
The University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) Leadership Excellence Academy enables you to engage in designed leadership experiences and tailored professional development, exploring self-awareness and facilitating personal growth. Running March through October, the Academy includes monthly seminars and workshops, mentoring, a service project, student presentation and an online portal for 24 hour guidance. The USQ Leadership Conference is a partner initiative of the Academy and is included in the Academy program.
UniSQ recognises the geographical diversity of our student population, within Australia and also Internationally. To ensure all students accepted into the Academy can participate completely, all elements of the program will be delivered online.
If accepted, you are expected to complete all elements of the Academy program, including live sessions. Before registering you are encouraged to examine the program structure which details dates and times for each live element, and any attendance requirements for self-paced activities.
To be eligible for the USQ Leadership Excellence Academy you must:
- hold a GPA of 5.0 or above (taken from latest completed)
- be a Vice-Chancellor or Chancellor Excellence Scholarship recipient or hold a current Student Leader position*
- be a current continuing 2022 student (must have completed 8 courses)
- complete the application form, including personal statement and supporting documents
The personal statement required in the application form should:
- be a maximum of one A4 page (minimum 8pt font)
- be cohesive and concise with structured paragraphs
- address your reason for applying to the Academy
- outline what you hope to gain from the Academy program
- demonstrate your involvement with USQ and or your local community
The 2022 USQ Leadership Excellence Academy has 20 places available.
*Student Leader positions include Student Ambassadors, Student Representatives, Residential Colleges Advisors, USQ Student Club Executives and iConnect Concierges.
The Academy program outcomes upon completion can include:
- increased confidence to enter the workplace
- improved employability and graduate skills
- greater sense of leadership in your chosen career path
- increased motivation for further learning opportunities
- enhanced relationships with peers
Each student who completes the Academy program receives an invitation to the University of Southern Queensland Student Awards, where they are recognised for their achievement and presented with an award and Certificate of Completion. Students who are also registered in the UniSQ Phoenix Award are eligible to include the Academy as a significant contribution towards their Award.

Academy participants are expected to attend and participate in all elements of the program, including live sessions (sessions are not recorded). Participants are also expected to abide by USQ's policies when engaging in the online portal.
