In the dynamic socio-technical environment in which the aviation industry exists, successful aviation professionals need to build resilience, underpinned by a detailed knowledge of the way aviation businesses operate, as well as the ability to articulate and integrate their ideas. This course introduces and expands on the basic outline of the aviation industry business models through an appropriate blend of theories and examples. The course also focuses on the actual business aspects of the aviation industry at the tactical and strategic level. Although there is no formal prerequisite requirement this course assumes prior knowledge from AVN1101 (Introduction to Aviation).

This course studies the various businesses and business processes that make up the aviation industry. These include the aircraft manufacturers, general aviation, airlines, airports and other sectors of the industry including government agencies and maintenance organisations. As well as learning about these various businesses, where appropriate students will make site visits or have Aviation business leaders visit campus to example organisations to develop a deeper understanding of the industry. Students will also continue their professional development within the industry by investigating and experiencing aspects of the industry such as appropriate dress, bearing, professional attitudes and non-technical skills.
