The leaders of tomorrow will need to predict, prepare and position their organisations and businesses for ongoing rapid change and response to a range of crises to future-proof their business. Crises can come in many different forms ranging from small internal skirmishes to global pandemics. In call cases time is at a premium and leaders need to deliver steadfast and authentic performances in the face of uncertainty, media scrutiny and nervous investors. The cost of failure and the potential damage to reputation is high. Clear and regular communication, access to high quality information from credible sources and the ability to make rapid decisions are all essential to success when leading through a crisis.
In this course, you will investigate the different levels and types of crises that leaders may need to face in their organisations and how each requires a different style of leadership in response. Early warning systems and crisis detection and prevention will be explored and the policy and cultural implication s of these considered. The importance of timely and reliable information will be highlighted as will be the role of authentic and strategic communication in successfully dealing with the crisis within a business context. Finally, you will critique and develop strategic responses to crises that integrate your learnings from the program to this point.
Course learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course students should be able to:
- Identify and critique contemporary and emerging knowledge to inform strategic responses to various forms of crisis
- Collect, curate, critically analyse and use judgement to interpret relevant and reliable data and information from a range of sources to inform the urgency and approach of strategic responses to a crisis
- Review and evaluate leadership approaches and communication strategies in response to a range of different types and levels of crisis.
- Formulate strategic, innovative and creative responses to crises that align with the capability and purpose of the organisation and your leadership identity
