USQ Reconciliation Action Plan

Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2019 - 2021

USQ's Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2019 - 2021 is now available.

UniSQ commenced planning for its refreshed RAP late in 2017, as the first USQ Reconciliation Action Plan Walking Together 2015-2017 was reaching maturity. An extensive consultation process was undertaken, together with a thorough review of the implementation of the first RAP, in order to inform the refresh process.

A strong basis for the USQ RAP refresh was the publication of Universities Australia Indigenous Strategy 2012-2020. Supported by all Australian universities, this landmark national strategy provides a blueprint for improving opportunities and attainment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff and communities. The Strategy includes 11 actions to which all Australian universities are committed.

UniSQ takes an all-of-university approach in the development and implementation of its RAP, appreciating that reconciliation is everyone's business and a shared responsibility. The USQ RAP is championed by the Vice-Chancellor with the support of the University's Council and executive management. The implementation of the RAP is overseen by the USQ RAP Working Group.

The new RAP contains 16 actions across the areas of relationships, respect, opportunities and governance. The RAP builds on the foundations set by existing documents both internal and external to UniSQ, in conjunction with community consultation.

Walking Together: USQ Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2015-2017 was UniSQ’s first RAP. It has obliged the University to report regularly on progress made in implementing the 27 Actions and achieving the targets published in the Plan. This plan was endorsed by Reconciliation Australia and supports our core business by engaging communities, providing pathways to higher education, improving education and employment outcomes and undertaking research that is both relevant and supportive to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
